21Net successfully demonstrated
in June and July 2004 on two occasions
over a period of four working days each
satellite-to-“Wi-Fi” broadband
Internet access on board a 300km/hour
train.
This world’s first
demonstration of Ku-band bi-directional
satellite communications to and from
a train delivered uninterrupted broadband
access at speeds in excess of 4 MBit/s
onboard the AVE train from the Spanish
operator Renfe.
The
trials were held in the presence
of representatives of two train
operators and of the European
Space Agency.
